2011 Florida Birding Instructional Tour Report

I had a great group of clients on my Birding tour in SW Florida although a bit cold!  The birds didn’t seem to mind and we had plenty of opportunities with portraits as well as flight images.  The winds were very cooperative the first day so while many people ignore the common brown pelican, but I was able to get one of my favorite poses of any trip there as they banked in the strong east winds.

The usual Florida suspects are very habituated to people which makes for surreal photography opportunities as in most places you can’t appoach them as close as we do on this instructional tour. We also spent an afternoon chasing the burrowing owls.  We found many cooperative ones and were rewarded when the light popped out at the last minute.

As always, the highlight of the tour is the 2 days on the private charter with James Shadle for the Roseate Spoonbills.  This trip is timed to coincide to capture them in their spectacular breeding plumage and because we book two days it gives us plenty of opportunities for fantastic portraits as well as some great flight action.  I am pleased to announc two instuctional Florida Birding tours for 2012.  The first is from March 3rd through the 10th and the second is from the 10-th through the 17th.  Both of these tours start at noon on the first day with you arrival at the airport and end at noon on the last day with your departure home.  The cost is $2,695 and is based on double occupancy with transportation after your arrival, lodging, and private tour days included int he price.  If you are interested in this instuctional tour you need to act fast as I expect this one to fill quickly!

  1. Oh my God! I want to attend all your tours. Your images & instructional skills are second to none. Since both your Arches trips are sold out… any chance of adding another for poor little me? haha
    keep on shinning Rock Star!
